Next ATUC meeting Wed 1st October - all delegates and associates welcome

The next meeting of the Aberdeen Trades UnionCouncil will be held on Wed 1st October in the ATUC Premises, John Londragon House, 22a Adelphi, Aberdeen.

 

A full agenda will include the STUC March and Rally "Decent Work, Dignified Lives" on 18th October; the "A Just Scotland" Conference on 15th October and the planning for the St Andrew's Day March in Aberdeen.

 

All delegates are encouraged to attend and associate members are welcome.

Keep up the pressure against Barclay's complicity in Israeli war crimes - protest on 27th Sept

The Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, supported by the ATUC will be holding another protest in St Nicholas Square at 12 noon on Saturday 27th September, for protest at Barclays Bank at 12.30. 

We are calling on all our affiliated unions to join us, and add your voice to the protest - NO MORE UK COMPLICITY IN ISRAELI WAR CRIMES!

As Desmond Tutu said, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor”. Please come and join us to campaign to end the injustices in Palestine.

Join the ATUC at A Just Scotland March and Rally 18th October 2014

Aberdeen Trades Union Council is calling on all our affiliated unions and associated community groups to join us at the March and Rally in Glasgow on 18th October 2014 which will call for decent work and dignified lives.

The March and Rally is part of Challenging Poverty week and has been organised by the Scottish Trade Unions Congress (STUC) . The march will muster in Glasgow Green at 10am and will march off at 10.30am to a Rally in George Square.

Join the protest on Saturday and keep up the pressure on Barclays to end its complicity in Israeli war crimes.

On Saturday the 30th of August, people from Aberdeen and the North-East will again gather outside Barclays Bank to voice their condemnation of Barclays’ complicity in Israeli war crimes.

Meet in St Nicholas Square at 11.30 for protest at Barclays at 12.30.

WHY BARCLAYS?
Barclays bank is a major shareholder in Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms manufacturer. Barclays holds about 6.5% of all of Elbit shares and has more than £7 billion invested in global arms companies. The Scottish Government has called for an arms embargo on Israel given the mounting evidence of Israeli war crimes in Gaza. This MUST be accompanied by global divestment from Israeli arms companies.

Protesters again call on Barclays to stop profiting from Israeli war crimes

As the slaughter in Gaza continues, taking the lives of more children and their families, members of Aberdeen Trades Union Council, Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign and faith and community groups kept up the pressure on Barclay's Bank to divest from Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit systems.

For the second Saturday, protesters demonstrated outside Barclay's Bank and staged a "die-in" to commemorate all those who have lost their lives as a result of the Israeli assaults on Gaza, and calling on Barclays to end their complicity with Israeli war crimes.

Passers by again took leaflets and many signed the petition with some even joining the protest. Speakers again called for Israel to end its occupation of Palestine and for the establishment of a Palestinian Free State.

Come along to the ATUC Special General Meeting and the Delegates Meeting on 3rd Sept

There will be a Special General Meeting for ATUC delegates on Wed 3rd September from 7-7.30pm in 22a Adelphi. The sole purpose of this meeting will be to consider the immediate implementation of the Constitution and Standing Orders already approved by the AGM in March.

This will be followed by the usual ATUC meeting which will begin at 7.30pm.

ATUC President, Alan Robertson said, "Please do your best to come along to both these meetings. The sooner we can put in place our new constitution and standing orders the better, and after our Summer break, there is a lot of business to be considered at the normal delegates meeting.

"We hope to see you all there."
