"The Big Lie" screening on Tuesday 5 March at 7pm in Arts Centre - please come along

 Aberdeen Trades Union Council, along with the Morning Star in Scotland has organised a screening of "Oh Jeremy Corbyn The Big Lie" on Tuesday 5 March at 7pm in the Cafe Bar, Arts Centre, Aberdeen with a Q&A to follow.

"The Big Lie" is a film about the grassroots movement that propelled Jeremy Corbyn to become leader of the Labour Party and took Britain to the threshold of huge political change. What happened and why did it all fall apart? Directed by Ken Loach, this film explores a dark and murky story of political deceit and outrageous antisemitic smears. It also uncovers the critical role played by current Labour leader, Keir Starmer and asks if the movement which backed Corbyn could rise again.

We will be joined after it by Matt Kerr and Keith Stoddart of the Morning Star in Scotland, who will lead a discussion and answer questions on the film.

Morning Star Conference 2 October in STUC building, Glasgow and online - please come along

The Morning Star will hold its Scottish Conference on Sunday 2nd October 2022 from 12 noon till 4pm in the STUC Building, 8 Landressy St, Bridgeton G40 1BP. You can also join online.

The Conference is entitled "The Crisis Economic, social and political. How to resolve it" with sessions on the causes of the cost of living crisis, the human consequences of the crisis and a final session on how to solve it - asserting the democratic power of the working people.

ATUC delegate, Kate Ramsden will be one of the speakers, who also include Roz Foyer, General Secretary, STUC, Ben Chacko, editor, Morning Star, Alex Gordon, President of the RMT, Mercedes Villalba, MSP and many more. The conference will be chaired by Lynn Henderson, PCS.

Morning Star Scottish Readers and Supporters Conference 6 March 11am - It has never been more important to support the people's paper

The Aberdeen Trades Union Council is urging all our delegates and affiliates to attend the Morning Star Scottish Readers and Supporters conference taking place online on Sunday 6 March at 11am.

It has never been more important to support the Morning Star, the newspaper of trade unions and the left.

This is a practical conference for all supporters  of  the Morning Star to discuss how to improve the paper's impact, extend readership and build its finances in Scotland.

The Conference will be hels on zoom and will last a little over two hours. It will be chaired bu UNISON NEC member and ATUC ex-president, Kate Ramsden and will hear from Unite's Steve Dillon, a previous member of ATUC.

Come along to the Morning Star Our Class Our Culture event on 50th anniversary of the union movement defeat of anti-trade union laws

 Please come along to the Morning Star Our Class Our Culture event on Tuesday 1st June at 7pm to look at how the trade union movement defeated anti-trade union laws and an anti-working class government 50 years ago and the lessons we can learn for the present day.

The event will be chaired by UNISON national executive member and ATUC member Kate Ramsden, and speakers are:

Davie Cooper - on the UCS action, how unity was won and maintained, how broader support was won across Britain

George Kerr - on how broader unity was secured in workplaces across the Clyde and further afield and the role of the shop stewards movement and liaison committee

Brenda Carson - on current challenges, the fight back by women trade unions and how memories of the past can inspire the present

Jackson Cullinane - on lessons for the present

There has never been a more important time to be in a trade union and for collective action. Many of the challenges that face us have parallels from 50 years ago and hearing about those successes can only inspite us for the fights ahead.

Join the Morning Star Fringe meeting on Sun 15th Nov at 3pm - overcoming the economic crisis

Please join us at the Morning Star Fringe Meeting at the STUC virtual Congress, "Covid and the economic crisis: Neoliberal policies caused it. How can we overcome it?" on Sunday 15th November 2020 at 3pm. 

Speakers include ATUC member Kate Ramsden of UNISON, alongside Andrew Murray, Unite Chief of Staff, Roz Foyer, STUC General Secretary, and Neil Findlay, MSP. Corolyn Jones, Vice-chair of the People's Press Management Committee will chair the event.

It promises to be an interesting and stimulating debate. Please come along.

Morning Star event - Aberdeen and International Solidarity - Wed 2nd Sep 6.30pm. All welcome!

Please come along to "Aberdeen and International Solidarity - Spain, South Africa, Palestine" which will be held on Wed 2nd Sept in the ATUC premises at John Londragan House, 22A Adelphi, Aberdeen 6.30-7.30pm, directly before the ATUC delegates meeting. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE.

The event is being held as part of the Morning Star's "Our class, our culture" programme and will feature talks from ATUC delegates, Tommy Campbell, of Unite, Cllr Barney Crockett, and Kate Ramsden, ATUC Vice President.

It will focus on Aberdeen's history of international solidarity from the Spanish Civil War, to its role in the South African anti-apartheid movement right through to its current links with Palestine through the Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign Aberdeen.

All are welcome to attend before going along to the delegates meeting and those of us speaking would appreciate your support for what looks to be a very interesting and informative event.
