Rededication of plaque to brave Aberdeen International Brigaders

Dozens of people gathered in Aberdeen for the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the north-east men who fought fascism in the Spanish civil war.

A total of 19 men from the area volunteered with the International Brigades during the conflict in the 1930s.

The plaque was previously on display in the Aberdeen Music Hall, but was removed during the recent £9million renovation work.

But now, thanks to lobbying by, amongst others, Tommy Campbell of the ATUC and the International Brigade Memorial Trust, it has gained pride of place again in front of a crowd including representatives of the International Bridge Memorial Trust and the families of those who went to fight.

The north-east men were among 2,500 volunteers from the British Isles who joined the voluntary effort to contest fascist General Franco.

Special event for Holocaust Memorial Day in Aberdeen. Lest we forget.

Aberdeen Holocaust Memorial Day Committee, has organised a special event aimed at ensuring the memory of the Holocaust and other genocides are kept alive and that lessons are learned for today and for future generations.

The event will be held on Monday 27th January from 12 until 1pm in Aberdeen Art Gallery, Cowdray Hall and Memorial Hall, Schoolhill Aberdeen AB10 1FQ. There will be a minute’s silence at 12:30 in the Memorial Hall.

The event will hear from school children who have visited concentration camps, and from individuals who have been personally affected by genocide.

We will join together in solidarity, standing together in silence to reflect on those who have been lost. The event will also mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp and the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.

The event will be BSL signed.

All ATUC delegates and affiliates are urged to attend if you can.

Support the ATUC - Book Your Annual Report Adverts

It's that time of year again, and the ATUC are looking for organisations to help sponsor our 2019 annual report, to be published later this year, by taking out adverts to be included in the publication.  You can view last year's report as well.

Organisations taking adverts in this way allow us to produce the well respected Annual Report each year which is distributed to trade union and other organisations, as well as being made available at the annual STUC conference.  It's a great way to get your branch or organisation noticed, as well as helping us to cover the costs of producing the report.

Annual Report advert costs are as follows:
    • Full-page - £200.00
    • Half-page - £100.00
    • Quarter-page - £50.00
To book your advert please ensure you complete our online form.

To make it even easier you can now submit your annual report advert request online, including uploading your copy ready artwork/poster.  We'll then invoice you for the selected amount.

    Just complete our online form.
