Next ATUC Meeting on Wed 2nd April All delegates welcome

The next meeting of the Aberdeen Trades Union Council will be held on Wednesday 2nd April at 7.30pm in John Londragon House, 22A Adelphi, Aberdeen. An Agenda and supporting papers will be issued in the next few days.

All delegates are encouraged to attend.

Aberdeen Festival of Politics - A Unique Event



The Aberdeen Festival of Politics will kick off on Monday 24th March with a showing of two films, City Without Class, a short film about Aberdeen made by local film makers, and The Happy Lands, a powerful film set in the mining communities in Fife during the General Strike of 1926.

It will end with a Big Debate on the Independence Referendum on Sunday 30th and with an Economics Debate on Monday 31st March.

Organiser, Renee Slater said, “This is a unique event in Scotland. We are in an important year for our country. Whatever happens here after the referendum, Scotland will certainly be a different place.

"As citizens of Aberdeen we have the opportunity to make an impact on that future. Events such as this can only be positive.”

AGM celebrates recovery and looks forward with confidence

Tributes were paid to outgoing Secretary, Brian Carroll and to Treasurer, Mark Chapman, as delegates attending the ATUC AGM heard that the finances are healthy once more, and more local trade unions have affiliated.

Long standing member, Jimmy Neave, called for a vote of thanks to both Brian and Mark for all their work in spearheading the ATUC recovery to the point
where we can look forward with confidence to the years ahead.

Speaking to his Annual Report, Brian told of a busy year for the ATUC with the highlight being the first May Day March in many years which marched down the entire length of Union Street.

Aberdeen Trade Union Council AGM Wed 5th March 2014

All ATUC delegates are invited to attend the 2014 AGM which will be held in the ATUC premises, John Londragon House, 22a Adelphi, Aberdeen, beginning at 7.30pm.

Interim Secretary, Brian Carroll said, "This is a very important AGM which will elect ATUC Officers for the coming year and will also consider whether to adopt the updated constitution and standing orders.

"All delegates from affiliated trade unions are welcome to come along and have their say, and we are hoping for a good turn out, some interesting debate and decisions which will lay the foundations for the year ahead."

Celebrate International Women's Day and hear about women's roles in trade unions and peace and justice campaigns across the world

The ATUC is supporting an event to celebrate International Women's Day 2014.
 
The event will be held at the UNITE District Office, 44 King Street, Aberdeen AB24 5TJ on Friday 7th March from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.
 
There will be light refreshments (halal food is  available) from 12.30pm until 1.00pm.
 
Guest speakers are Karolin Hijazi from Aberdeen Palestine Solidarity Committee and   Unite Activist  Sheila Kettles  who was the Scottish delegate on an UNITE/TSSA delegation of Trade Unionists who visited Palestine in January 2013.

This  event will be Chaired by Elaine Dougall, Unite’s Regional  Women and Equalities Officer.

Aberdeen Trades Union Council disgust at loss of 999 service provision.

In a press release issued today, Aberdeen Trades Union Council has expressed its disgust at the total lack of public consultation regarding the proposed closure of the control centre at the local Queens Street Headquarters of Police Scotland.

The Trades Union Council will also be sending an emergency resolution to the STUC

Kevin Hutchens, Unite Delegate and Executive Committee member of Aberdeen TUC stated, "Aberdeen TUC is disgusted and appalled at the total lack of consultation with the public and the wider trade union movement over the proposed closure of this vital service.

AGM 2014 All delegates invited to attend as Aberdeen TUC looks forward with confidence

The 2014 AGM of the Aberdeen Trades Union Council will have a packed Agenda as delegates look forward with confidence to the challenges ahead. 

The AGM will be held on Wed 5th March in the ATUC premises at John Londragan House, 22a Adelphi, Aberdeen and all delegates are encouraged to attend. The meeting will elect new Officers and Trustees and will consider a revised constitution and standing orders, which will be presented for approval.

 Brian Carroll, Interim Secretary, said, "We have had a very busy, and at times challenging, couple of years but I am delighted to say that we have now completed our action plan, and the ATUC is in a very good position moving forward.

"We have increased our numbers of affiliated unions and branches and we would like to thank them all for their support of Aberdeen TUC over recent times.

"Last year has been very productive, as will be seen from our Annual Report which has gone to print, and we are in good shape for the challenges ahead."
